The One I'd Like Much Better

Note:  Well I've just seen "The One Where Ross And Rachel Take A Break" again, and I'm feeling a bit depressed (that episode always makes me depressed, but not half as depressed as the one after), so I decided to write a fanfic about what I would have liked to see afterwards. I know it's a bit late, more than three years, but I don't really care. Oh well, here goes...

(We see various flashbacks; Ross in Rachel's office, Rachel saying "maybe we should take a break", Ross calling when Mark's there, Ross and Chloe kissing)

CREDITS

Scene:  The Philly. Ross and Chloe are still kissing. (and I feel like throwing up)

Ross:  Wait, no, I can't do this. (a faint glimmer of hope appears in my eyes)

Chloe:  I told you it's OK if you're married.

Ross:  No, see, I have a girlfriend.

Chloe:  How's that different?

Ross:  It's- (stares at her) You are a very bad person, you know that? (you tell 'er Ross!)

Chloe:  Why?

Ross:  It's OK if I'm married? You're trying to force me into committing adultery!

Chloe:  I thought you said you weren't married?

Ross:  Yeah, well, I was kinda hoping that would change...

Chloe:  So why are you here?

Ross:  Because Rachel wanted us to take a break, and then I called, and MARK WAS THERE!!!

Chloe:  So?

Ross:  Y'know, I don't even like you anymore, what am I doing here?

Chloe:  That's what I just asked you.

Ross:  (not listening to her anymore) I should be trying to sort things out with Rachel...maybe I was wrong about Mark...

Chloe:  Mark?

Ross:  I'm going home. No I'm not.

Chloe:  Good!

Ross:  I'm going to Rachel's.

Chloe:  Oh. (Ross walks toward the door) This Mark guy, is he nice?

Scene:  Monica and Rachel's apartment. Rachel is still lying by the window. There is a knock at the door. Rachel goes to get it.

Ross:  Hi.

Rachel:  Ross! Where have you been? I was getting worried!

Ross:  I'll tell you, but only if you let me in. I don't really feel comfortable with the whole building listening.

Rachel:  Sure. (they go in)

Ross:  OK, Rach, I'm sorry. I just wanted our anniversary to be perfect.

Rachel:  Honey I know you did, and I'm sorry I reacted like that. All this overtime is making me crabby. (they hug)

Ross:  (letting go of her) OK, now you tell me what Mark was doing here.

Rachel:  Ross, it's not what you think. Mark called, and he sussed out that I wasn't doing to good, and he came over. I told him not to, but he wouldn't listen!

Ross:  You promise that's all?

Rachel:  I promise! You don't seriously think I'd do something like that do you?

Ross:  No, I guess not. It's just that you're one of the best things that's ever happened to me, and I don't want to lose you.

Rachel:  Y'know, I feel the same. I've never felt like this with anyone before. (they kiss) Now, according to my watch, we still have half an hour of anniversary left. You think that's enough time for a little celebrating?

Ross:  You betcha! (he carries her in to her room and slams the door shut behind them)

CREDITS

Scene:  The Philly. Chloe is at the bar as Mark comes in. She goes up to him.

Chloe:  And who are you, gorgeous? (I am again ready to puke)

Mark:  I'm Mark.

Chloe:  Mark, huh? (she looks him up and down) Wanna dance?

THE END

OK, it was a little short. Very short. It was STILL better than "The One The Morning After" though, wasn't it?
